New COVID-19 cases rise in Tokyo for 10 straight weeks through last Sunday, according to health ministry data on Friday.
According to the ministry’s monitoring, around 5,000 medical institutions across the country detected about 11.18 new cases each during the week ended last Sunday.
A mask should be used in crowded places, and unnecessary crowds should always be avoided when a person has an idea that he/she cannot resist going out, as the pandemic is far from over.
As of today, 43 serious cases require ventilators or ECMO devices, reflecting a slight increase. A three-day average of 5,407 tests are conducted. Stay safe and vigilant!
The KP.3 lineage for COVID-19, derived from the Omicron strain, has been dominant since this spring. According to one analysis finding from a team at the University of Tokyo, the JN.1 subvariant is more communicable and has the ability to escape immunity acquired through both infections and vaccinations.
Across all the prefectures, Kagoshima had the highest number of persons per institution at 31.75, followed by Saga at 29.46, Miyazaki at 29.34, and Okinawa at 28.57. Kumamoto recorded 26.33, Nagasaki 22.40 and Oita had the smallest value at 20.07. All are located in southwestern Japan.
The average for medical institutions, numbering about 5,000, stood at 11.18 in the week, with the total number of patients increasing to 55,072 from the figure the previous week, according to data from the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.
